💎Hidden Gems

Sponsored Local Boutique

🍍 Tucked away on Pinckney Street in the heart of the historic district, Pineapple House Boutique is one of those shops that genuinely feels like Charleston. Run entirely by Charleston natives, it carries exclusively handmade and artisan pieces you won't find anywhere else in town. From beautifully packaged gifts and handmade handbags to jewelry and stylish apparel, everything inside reflects the city's creative spirit. The team knows every maker personally, and that relationship comes through in what they choose to carry. Whether you're shopping for yourself or looking for something to give that actually means something, this one is worth the trip. Check out their website here.

🍣 Downtown Charleston's longest running sushi bar has been quietly doing its thing on East Bay Street since 2001, and the regulars wouldn't have it any other way. Shiki is a small, family-owned spot that focuses on authentic, traditional Japanese cuisine rather than the flashy rolls you'll find everywhere else. The fish is consistently fresh, the menu runs from nigiri and sashimi to udon, ramen, and katsu, and the room itself is exactly what you'd want from a neighborhood sushi bar. Reservations are strongly recommended given the limited seating, and they're open Tuesday through Saturday for both lunch and dinner. Check out their menu here.

🥪 Brown Dog Deli on Calhoun Street is a lunch spot with a lot more personality than the name suggests. The sandwich menu is where things get interesting. The Notorious BLT swaps out the usual ingredients for palmetto pimento cheese, fried green tomato, and pepper jelly on thick challah bread. The Apple Butter Jeans layers turkey, ham, brie, and granny smith apple on a panini-pressed baguette. The Roast Beef & Brie pairs porcini-rubbed London broil with Cheerwine-marinated portobellas and ginger-fig preserves. Every item on the menu has that same level of thought behind it. Check out their menu here.

📰Local Updates You Should Care About

🌿 The SC Senate has passed legislation to legalize and regulate some THC products statewide, marking a significant shift in the state's cannabis policy. The bill still has steps ahead in the legislative process, but Charleston residents could soon see major changes in what cannabis products are legally available here.

✈️ Charleston International Airport has become the first in South Carolina to roll out touchless TSA screening technology. If you fly out of CHS regularly, your next trip through security could look a lot different.

🏪 Fairmount Plaza on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant has new ownership after selling for $15 million, and the tenant shakeup is already underway. Several longtime businesses were priced out after rent increases that came with the sale, and new tenants including Caviar & Bananas are moving in as renovations get underway. Worth keeping an eye on if you're in that part of town.

🐦 The SC Department of Natural Resources has closed its managed islands to the public as coastal bird breeding season gets underway. Laughing gulls, brown pelicans, terns, and oystercatchers are among the species nesting in these areas, so boaters and outdoor enthusiasts will want to plan accordingly before heading out on the water.

🏟️ Mount Pleasant broke ground on Gary Santos Park, a $40 million recreation complex coming to the area by 2027. The facility will include pickleball, tennis, and basketball courts, a gym, and open fields, adding a significant new gathering spot for the community when it opens.

That's a wrap for today. As always, thanks for spending a few minutes with us. We'll see you back here Friday morning.
