New in Town / Opening Soon
🛒Opie is a new locally owned, drive-thru grocery store in Mount Pleasant designed for speed and convenience. You can drive up and order, order ahead in their app, or choose delivery, with groceries ready in minutes. They also have a café serving practical favorites like sausage, egg, and cheese croissants alongside fun treats like sugar cookie lattes and donuts. Check out their website for all offerings.
🥯Pop Up Bagels just announced they’re opening a location at 83 Mary St. in downtown Charleston. The Connecticut-based shop has won Best Bagel at Brooklyn Bagelfest two years in a row and is known for its crispy exterior and soft, chewy center. Schmear options range from classic plain cream cheese to flavors like lemon pepper and Bret’s Dessert Bowl Butter. If you’re curious, their Instagram is worth a look, and they’re also hosting a late-night bagel pop-up at Republic this Saturday at 9pm.
🧘♀️ Alo Yoga is planning a new retail location at 245 King St. in Charleston, bringing the popular athleisure and yoga-focused brand to the city’s main shopping corridor. Alo operates more than 50 stores nationwide and is known for premium yoga wear and lifestyle apparel (website).

🏠 A landmark home at 2 Water Street on the Battery sold for $7.4 million at a Sotheby’s auction, despite previously being listed for $17.9 million. The early-1800s waterfront property drew national attention, but ultimately closed at less than half its original asking price. Check out images / videos of the house here.
✈️ Breeze Airways is launching nonstop service from Charleston to Atlantic City this spring, giving Lowcountry travelers a new, affordable getaway option. One-way fares start at just $49, making it easy to head north for a weekend at the casinos, the boardwalk, and the classic Jersey Shore experience. Check out ticket availability starting in May.
❄️Forecasters are watching the potential for rare snow in the Lowcountry this weekend as frigid air moves into the region. Light snow or wintry precipitation is possible late Saturday into Sunday, though amounts remain uncertain. Even a small accumulation could impact travel given how uncommon snow is locally.
🔥 A massive brush fire broke out Wednesday night on Laurel Island near the Ravenel Bridge and I-26, prompting responses from Charleston police and multiple fire departments. The blaze burned roughly 20 acres of grass and brush, was extinguished by early Thursday morning - investigators are returning to determine the cause (live5news).
