Our New Restaurant Recommendations

Two New Restaurants Worth Trying

  1. Shokudô, by The Indigo Road, is a new Japanese restaurant / tavern (izakaya) that opened on King Street, in the previous location of Maya. The menu offers a plethora of dishes including ramen, sushi, dumplings, curry, and more. For a fun surprise, get the Golden Arches Hand Pie, which comes in McDonalds branded packaging.

  1. Trading Post is a new all-day breakfast cafe open on James Island, brought to you by the Jack of Cups team. The menu offers traditional items like bacon egg and cheese, along with experimental dishes like a breakfast sandwich with teriyaki spam, egg, pineapple, and siracha.

Local Pulse

Things Charlestonians Are Discussing on Social Media

  1. Fratello’s is set to open in January on James Island, in the previous location of Obrion’s, next to Publix. Personally, Obrion’s was one of my favorite neighborhood bars where I’d watch sports. Hopefully Fratello’s can replicate the same vibes.

  2. Local Facebook users gathered to discuss the important question - who is the most famous South Carolina celebrity? Some of the top picks were Darius Rucker, Vanna White, Chadwick Boseman, and Joe Frasier. Who would you pick?

  3. There are many local gyms in Charleston, but none that offer all encompassing recreational facilities (swimming pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, track, youth sports). This could be a good case for a YMCA in Charleston County - currently the closest to Charleston is in Cane Bay. Do you think this would be useful? If so, where would be the best place to build it?'

  4. Rents are technically becoming more affordable in Charleston as price increases have remained flat over the past 2 years, but they are still 30%+ higher (The Post and Courier) than they were in 2020.

  5. Outer Banks wrapped up the filming of its final season over the past week. It’s been great to see so many local cast members involved in the show, and hopefully we will continue to see more films produced and filmed here.

That’s it for this week.
