Local Business Spotlight: Sharkey’s Cuts For Kids

Sharkey’s Stylist, Shanel, leaving for Ghana with gifts and talents

Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids is more than just a children’s hair salon. It is a place where kids feel confident, comfortable, and excited about getting their hair cut. Designed specifically for children, the salon features fun themed chairs, favorite shows, an XBOX station, and other fun kid-friendly amenities during appointments. Sharkey’s experienced stylists know how to make every visit smooth and stress free for families. From first haircuts to fresh back to school styles, Sharkey’s creates an experience that kids actually look forward to.

Locally owned by Kathleen Allison, Sharkey’s Cuts For Kids is deeply committed to giving back to the community. Kathleen is consistently supporting local causes and families, and that same heart for service extends beyond Charleston. Pictured above, Sharkey’s Stylist, Shanel, recently traveled to Ghana bringing gifts and art supplies, including watercolor paint, for children in need. While there, she provided free haircuts to kids in the community. This is just one of many examples of how Sharkey’s goes beyond haircuts to make a meaningful impact both locally and globally.

If you are looking for a haircut experience your kids will actually enjoy, book your appointment at Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids Charleston today and support a local business that is investing back into the community.

💎Hidden Gems

🐦Located in South Windermere Center, Three Little Birds Cafe is a dependable West Ashley breakfast spot that consistently delivers quality food at reasonable prices. My favorite item is the Peanut Butter, Banana & Honey Stuffed Challah French Toast. It strikes a great balance between indulgent and satisfying. It may not have the buzz of some downtown brunch destinations, but that is part of the appeal. Three Little Birds focuses on good food, fair pricing, and consistency, which is exactly why it remains a local favorite.

🌾If you want to truly shop local, take the short drive to Ambrose Family Farm on Wadmalaw Island. This multi-generation family farm grows seasonal produce right here in the Lowcountry and offers fresh vegetables, berries, flowers and U-pick options throughout the year. It’s not a polished tourist stop, it’s a real working farm that supplies Charleston with food grown just miles away, making it one of the most authentic ways to support local.

📰Local Updates You Should Care About

🎤The Plain White T’s, best known for their chart-topping hit “Hey There Delilah,” are set to perform a free concert at the Joseph S. Daning Amphitheater in Goose Creek on April 25th. Fans simply had to reserve tickets online, and all 2,000 spots were claimed in less than two hours after release. City leaders say the show is part of a broader effort to bring well-known acts and more community events to the Daning Amphitheater throughout the year. You can find a full list of the free events planned for 2026 on the amphitheater’s official website.

🐔Chick-fil-A awarded $125,000 to Engaging Creative Minds, a local organization that works with thousands of public school students across South Carolina. The funding comes through the company’s True Inspiration Awards and will help expand ECM’s YESCarolina youth entrepreneurship program, giving more students access to hands-on business education, mentorship and startup support. Out of more than 3,500 applicants worldwide, ECM was one of just 56 nonprofits selected, putting Charleston on the map in a big way.

🚲Charleston is moving forward with a dedicated bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the Ashley River, creating a safe, car-free connection between West Ashley and downtown. The project is largely funded by an $18.1 million federal grant, with City Council recently approving an additional $437,500 to finalize design and safety improvements. The bridge is expected to open in 2027 (Charleston Moves). Why This Matters: Crossing the Ashley River without a car has long been difficult and dangerous. This project closes a major safety gap and gives residents a safer way to connect to downtown, jobs, parks and surrounding neighborhoods.

That’s everything I’ve got for this week. Thanks for being part of this community and showing up for local spots around Charleston.

Don’t forget to keep an eye out for Friday’s edition.
