🍍Your closet called. It wants something new.

All Things Charleston Partner. Spring is officially here, and if you've been stuck in the same winter rotation for months, it might be time for a refresh. The Pineapple House Boutique on Pinckney Street is exactly where you want to go for it. This local boutique has that unmistakable Charleston charm, with breezy spring dresses, coastal prints, handcrafted jewelry, and pieces that feel distinctly Lowcountry without veering into tourist territory.
Everything is hand-selected, the staff actually know their inventory, and you can walk in without a plan and leave with something you'll wear all season.

✨New in Town
🥐 After two years of popping up around the Lowcountry, Annie Mae's Bakeshop officially opened its first brick-and-mortar at 185 St. Philip Street. Jason and Annie Vieira are turning out Southern savory and sweet treats that are already drawing a line out the door, from bacon egg and cheddar biscuit sandwiches to apple caramel sticky buns, key lime pie, and coconut cream cake. They've also got hand-blended teas and a full coffee and espresso program. Open Wednesday through Sunday, 8am to 2pm. Bigger plans are in the works too: a nighttime espresso martini and dessert cocktail bar is launching later this spring. Check out the website here.
🧆 Palmetto Pita just opened at 141 Calhoun Street downtown, and it's from the same team behind Istanbul Shish Kabob in North Charleston, one of our favorite hidden gems for authentic Turkish food. This new spot is take-out only, with bowls and wraps built around the same Mediterranean flavors locals already love. Late hours are in the plan, making it a go-to for a real meal after a night out when most kitchens are already closed. Downtown has been waiting for something like this. Check out their Instagram.
🌳 North Charleston just broke ground on its first food forest, and it's a big step for a part of the city that's been federally designated as both low-income and low-access to fresh food. The project is going in at the Charleston Farms Community Center at 1633 Sumner Avenue, made possible through grant funding from the South Carolina Forestry Commission and a partnership with Keep North Charleston Beautiful. A food forest is basically a low-maintenance, self-sustaining garden designed to mimic a natural forest ecosystem while producing food, and this one will extend the community garden that's already on site. Development continues through 2026 with a grand opening planned for December. Residents will be able to pick fresh herbs, fruit, and vegetables at no cost. Check out the full story here.

📰Local Updates You Should Care About
💰 Charleston County's transportation sales tax proposal is heading to the November ballot, giving voters a chance to decide on funding for major infrastructure projects. The sales tax would generate millions for road improvements, public transit, and other transportation needs across the county. If approved, residents can expect to see the tax reflected in their everyday purchases, but also potentially better roads and transit options in return.
🏢 A North Charleston community center has reopened after sitting closed for decades, bringing new recreational opportunities back to a longtime neighborhood. The facility will serve as a hub for community activities, youth programs, and local events in an area that has been without this resource for years. It's a meaningful investment in North Charleston's neighborhoods and should boost community engagement in the surrounding area.
🚗 Charleston's new mobile license plate readers are ramping up tickets and fines throughout the city, using automated technology to catch parking violations and expired tags. The mobile units can scan hundreds of license plates per hour while driving through neighborhoods and business districts, generating citations that are mailed to vehicle owners. Expect increased enforcement and higher ticket volumes, especially downtown and in high-traffic areas.

That's everything for this Friday. Enjoy the weekend, Charleston. We'll be back in your inbox Monday morning.
