Happy Friday!
The Super Bowl is on Sunday so I hope you got all your snacks ready. With that being said, who do you think will win?
Who will win the Super Bowl?
As a reminder, this newsletter is here to keep you up to date on the things that are actually worth your time in Charleston without having to endlessly scroll online. This weekend is packed with great happenings, and I am excited to get into it.

As promised in Monday’s edition, the member with the best local approved Italian restaurant would get a shout out. Jim had the top suggestion with Pan E Vino (menu) in Hollywood. All of the pasta is handmade, and the restaurant was previously located downtown before moving out to Hollywood.
Thanks to everyone who contributed and shared such great recommendations!

The TJX-owned brand is similar to HomeGoods but offers a wider selection of bigger home pieces.
☕ Caviar & Bananas is expanding to James Island, with a new location taking over the former Maple Street Biscuit Co. spot on Maybank Highway. This will be the café’s third Charleston-area location, joining its existing Downtown and MUSC-area spots. Expect the same popular lineup of sandwiches, coffee, pastries, and grab-and-go favorites.
🦆🐶 Big news from the Dog & Duck family - they’re opening Decoy, a new 21+ neighborhood bar at the corner of Highway 41 and Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant (in the space formerly The Basement). 📰Local Updates You Should Care About
🏭The parking lot at the Cigar Factory is now enforcing pay to park at roughly $6 to $7 per hour. Payment is required via posted signage or an app, though some businesses are offering parking validation or a free hour with a purchase. Why this matters: Many locals and regulators worry it will discourage quick visits for coffee, hair appointments, lunch, and other everyday stops and could negatively impact foot traffic for tenants that relied on easy parking (The Post and Courier).
🏊♀️The City of Charleston is planning a new recreation center on Johns Island to fill a gap in local services, adding amenities like a gym, pool, courts, pickleball, a playground, and more so residents won’t have to travel off the island for activities. City leaders aim for the center to open in about 18 to 24 months (live5news).
⚖️A proposed South Carolina bill would allow state universities to host events like food festivals and concerts without being restricted by local zoning rules. Supporters say it helps schools hold commencements and community events, while nearby Charleston residents worry it could lead to more large, disruptive events and reduce local control (WCSC).
🧯North Charleston Fire Museum will be closing soon after nearly 20 years of showcasing firefighting history and vintage equipment. City officials say many of the featured fire trucks and artifacts were on long-term loan and are now being reclaimed by their owners, making it difficult to keep the museum operating. Admission will be free through the final days, giving the community a last opportunity to visit before it closes.
